Lawn Care

Lawn Care

Spring is the most important time of year for lawn care and the best thing you can do for your lawn the whole year is to get it started off right with a fertilizer and crabgrass control combination in early spring before temps are regularly around 65 degrees. A popular product is Scotts Turf Builder with Halts Crabgrass Preventer but there are other products that contain dimension. If you dormant seeded the previous fall/winter you should wait until around May 1st before applying your pre-emergent.

After your first mowing of the year, your mower deck height should be close to as high as it will go once your grass starts growing. With a taller thicker lawn, it is much more difficult for crabgrass and other weeds to germinate, and it will help retain your soil moisture. If you do water your lawn it is better to deep water your lawn once or twice per week, instead of watering shallow every day.
